Multi-Fandom Postcard Exchange: Important Announcement

Hey there, everyone. It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to begin the process of closing the Multi-Fandom Postcard Exchange. The exchange will officially close on August 29th of next year (2024).

The primary reasons for this decision are a lack of funds and a lack of commitable time. The lack of funds in particular has made it impossible to keep up with annual increases in PO box pricing, ever-growing postage rates, and maintenance of required tech.

Please read on for further important information.

❤ Vex and Rebel

Sending Postcards

Current members are welcome and encouraged to continue sending postcards from now until July 1, 2024. This cut off date should allow mail from international members to reach us before our PO box closes at the end of August 2024.

Please remember to continue registering your received postcards!

Membership Management

Membership has been CLOSED and no new member applications will be accepted. Current members are still welcome to manage their membership through these forms:
Fortune Friday

There will be one more members-only Fortune Friday event. It will occur on Friday, October 13, 2023.

Holiday Cheer

We are very sorry to announce that we will be unable to coordinate Holiday Cheer this year. We understand that Holiday Cheer has been a popular and appreciated event for the past three years and we apologize for any upset this change causes.

Additional Information

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment.

Behind the cut below, you will find a more in-depth and personal explanation of our decision to close the Multi-Fandom Postcard Exchange, ways to keep in touch, and a thank you.

February 2nd update: still no response.

To recap: my Tumblr account was terminated on January 23, 2023, and I sent them a message on that date to figure out what was going on.  However, after sending the message, I did not even receive an automated reply stating they were working on it, which was worrisome.

So on January 29, 2023, I sent a new ticket to Tumblr (under the category Terminated) that read as follows:

Hi there, Tumblr staff!

I apologize for submitting a second ticket, but I am not sure how long I should wait for a response before following up.

My account (main: vex-verlain) was terminated, and I am not sure why.  I am an Ad-Free Subscriber, and I do not believe I have violated any of the TOS, and I have never (to my knowledge) received any warnings.  It has been really hard to be cut off from my Tumblr friends and communities, and I am anxious to get my account (and sideblogs) restored.

Please let me know why my account was terminated and what can be done.  I know staff is busy, and this isn't the most important thing on your plates, but it's really important to me.  Thank you so much for your time and for everything you do.

After submitting this ticket, I actually received an automated response with the subject "Email Request Received" and the following message:

Hey there,

We got your email. We’re on the case and will respond as quickly as we can.

What should I do now?

If you didn’t already, send the permalink of the post you’re reporting. Just reply to this email so everything stays together. Don’t start a new chain or send a new report because those will be routed to the end of the queue.

And please don’t ask your friends to report the same issue. We know they love you, but they’ll clog up our system and make it harder for us to respond quickly.

What if I need help right away?

If things have gotten totally out of hand—like someone is threatening physical violence—you should report your concern in detail to the appropriate law enforcement organization.

Best,
Tumblr

So I'm confident now that Tumblr has received my request and I do hope they respond soon.

In the meantime, I am going to try to set up Dreamwidth to be our new base of operations.  This should be complete by the end of the February.

No word yet.

There has been no word from Tumblr yet, so I have set up the following space:

https://vex-verlain.neocities.org/mfpe/

There isn't anything there yet except a link to the Member Directory, which moved over to Neocities just fine.  I am considering moving all of the pages over to Neocities and only using Tumblr (and perhaps Dreamwidth) for updates in the future.

If you have any input as to how you would like things to go, please feel free to comment!

The MFPE website is down.

The Multi-Fandom Postcard Exchange website is currently down, due to the fact Tumblr terminated my main account sometime within the past 24 hours. I have reached out to support, but I know they have been busy fighting bots, so it may be a while before I hear back.

In short: the MFPE is still alive, just currently unavailable!

Our apologies.

To our Dreamwidth subscribers:

We love DW, and we love all of our DW members, but due to the amount of time required to moderate the MFPE, we will not be able to cross-post to Dreamwidth going forward.  We know that many here on DW are not terribly impressed by the blue hellsite known as Tumblr, but as Tumblr allows custom HTML pages (and thus a way to host our member directory), it is unfortunately our home.

Luckily, even if you never visit Tumblr, you can still keep up with our most recent posts by adding our RSS feed to your DW reading page.  Take yourself over to the DW feeds page and enter the following URL in order to subscribe: https://multifandompostcardexchange.tumblr.com/rss

Edited to add this addition from [personal profile] bluedreaming :

For a quick shortcut, since the feed has already been created (feeds only need to be created once), just view/track/subscribe to the feed at [syndicated profile] multifandompostcardx_feed

Happy World Postcard Day!

As of last year, thanks to Postcrossing, October 1st is World Postcard Day!  The Multi-Fandom Postcard Exchange will be opening its member directory later today so that everyone can begin sending and receiving postcards.

The MFPE currently has 28 members with...well, let’s just say many, MANY listed fandoms!

Half of our members are still awaiting their fan number, but never fear: everyone who has signed up will be able to participate as soon as the member directory opens.  Unverified members will be listed in the directory with an “A” replacing the last digit of their fan number.  Any postcards sent to them will be held until their address is verified.

Postcard examples will also be posted throughout the day.  If there is something you would like an example of, please send us an ask on Tumblr or a message on Dreamwidth!  In fact, if you have any questions/feedback/concerns, we urge you to share with us!

Welcome!

Welcome!

The mission of the Multi-Fandom Postcard Exchange is to allow fans to anonymously send and receive postcards using us as an intermediary because we believe that small acts of kindness can have life-changing effects.

We aim to be no-stress: you find people with similar interests and write to as many or as few of those people as you’d like, as many times as you’d like, whenever you’d like. And to ensure that money is not an issue, you can join without sending a single postcard. There is no pressure to perform.

We especially want to reach out to lurkers. We recognize that lurkers often make up an enormous part of fandom and lurk for a variety of reasons. We welcome all lurkers to join and lurk about our member directory. Should something inspire you to un-lurk for a moment, you can do that and then go back to hiding in the void. We don’t mind at all!

We also recognize that many people may be experiencing (sometimes greater) feelings of isolation during the pandemic. We think our postcard exchange is useful because 1.) it allows for low-stress interaction and 2.) it gives us something physical to hold onto/squee over/smile about.

Membership is currently open.

To learn more, visit our Participate page.

Our main site is located on Tumblr. This is due to the fact that Tumblr allows for custom HTML pages, so it allows us to host our member directory and other things very easily. You can visit us over at the blue hellsite here: https://multifandompostcardexchange.tumblr.com/
